Art Every Day Month #1

by Lisa on Sunday, November 1, 2009

mousedog_right_pageThanks to the luminous example of Leah, I’m going to try to make some kind of art every day this month. Today’s piece is a detail of a study for the prairie dog book. This is Stella (mustela nigripes), the blackfooted ferret who will cause a lot of trouble in Belle Prairie.

I think this plan to do more work on your writer/illustrator thing is a good one. I’m so glad Leah’s art every day month is giving you a kick start in that direction. Lovely work.

Oh, she is soooo cute! I love ferrets and that’s a great idea for a kid’s book.

Thanks, all! I found myself totally stuck on the prairie dog book when I was approaching it as purely a writing-revision project. I always meant for it to be illustrated, and somehow, getting to work on the pictures is making the story better. Not to mention the joy of making pictures.

Mr. Lisa thinks Stella’s expression is a lot like our dog Cricket’s. I’ll have to do a picture of her to compare.

Thanks, Mark! Peoples: Mark is a terrific illustrator and teacher. I’m taking an online course with him now and have found it to be extremely helpful.

Looks great, Lisa! I remember your fantasy drawings from high school. I love the picture of the ferret.

Kirin! Lovely to see you here. I remember your “Mental Traveler”, drawn on quadruled paper….
