Who was your favorite Winnie-the-Pooh character? Dear Pooh? Very Small Piglet? Wise Wol Owl? Bossy Rabbit? Dolorous Eeyore? —or Bouncy Tigger?
At one time or another, they’ve all been my favorites (along with Kanga and Roo and all of Rabbit’s Friends and Relations). But, lately, I’ve had a special place in my heart for Tigger.
The wonderful thing about tiggers
Is tiggers are wonderful things!
Their tops are made out of rubber
Their bottoms are made out of springs!
They’re bouncy, trouncy, flouncy, pouncy
Fun, fun, fun, fun, fun!
And why would a 51-year-old woman of sedentary habits feel kinship with Tigger? Because she has taken up bouncing, that’s why.
My new best friend is a Bellicon 39-inch rebounder that I bought through QiBounding.com*.
This thing was insanely expensive but I don’t care. I know myself: I am a design snob. (I’m a Mac-user, remember?) A thing may be useful, but if it is not also beautiful, I will scorn it. Exercise equipment has a tendency to be some of the ugliest useful stuff around. That’s why it hangs out in spare bedrooms and basements.
My little rebounder, though, has a sleek black steel frame, a pleasant bouncing surface, and soft bungee bands instead of springs. It’s really this last detail that makes the most difference to me. I am not graceful, and accidentally stepping on a hard metal spring is something that would happen and would put me off bouncing forever.
Also, I’ve used the inexpensive mini-trampolines you can buy at sporting good stores. It’s not the same bounce. This is a perfect, I-am-eight-and-I’m-bouncing-on-the-bed bounce. A pure, joyful bounce. Tigger territory.
So this thing has place of honor not in the back bedroom, but in my front hall. Atop a pretty round rug, where I pass by dozens of times a day—and bounce! I bounce while my third cup of coffee is reheating in the microwave. While my dogs are out barking in the yard. Whenever the inspiration to bounce hits me. It’s wonderful. Good things are gonna happen.

Lisa,I agree. Beauty is very important. (Okay, this is another Mac-user here. And a Green Mountain Knitting Bag instead of an LLBean tote for my knitting person.) I believe in buying quality.
Congratulations on your rebounder. Sounds great. Must be a terrific stress reducer.
Bounce with joy!
Oooooh, I wanna bounce too! Downstairs neighbors be damned. Unfortunately, the bouncing will have to wait until after the MBP fund is fully funded – but then I can bounce for joy over my new ‘puter.
As a fellow non-graceful person, I love the bungee design, also.
As an introverted child, I always liked Piglet and wanted to cheer up Eeyore. As an extroverted adult, I have a new appreciation for Tigger.
