Ah, but, Martha, remember that I really have no liking for the sewing machine and not a lot of patience for cutting things out neatly. You and Mare are much more adept. I think I must have a prejudice against noisy tools. Prefer hand drills, hand-sewing....

Yes, but you had both more natural talent and more persistence than I did with all of the fabric arts. Knitting was one of my more advanced bits - and eventually quilts of course -- but I was a terrible tatter!

@Andrea, I agree...

@Martha, I love that you reminded me of Grandma. I'm going to start with darning my cashmere socks, then resume/take up knitting.

I wonder if I have any muscle memory for tatting lace? Remember she taught us to do that, too?

Knitting is a great rhythm. As you know, Maks has gotten good at this, plus crocheting, and I see him use it as a soothing activity too. With grandma's looks, it seems to me all the more something you should do. I found it took my about 20 rows or so to feel back in the groove of basic knitting.

Sorry you have to deal with the preparing the nest to leave it...

It is. You can get into a rhythm that becomes almost zen-like. Any kind of needlework can do that. And there's also something about holding all that color and texture in your hands...
