Asking my husband’s new job to show itself worked so well (more on that in another post) that I think it might be helpful to state, just for the record, that it would be lovely if a buyer would find 2734 N. Southport Avenue, Unit D, before the end of the month. That would put us on track for an end-of-June closing, which would be perfect.
We’ve liked this townhouse very much. We chose it because there was more to it than meets the eye — it’s part of a group of 4 that have a handsome facade that faces the street, but our unit attaches to the others only through a narrow vestibule. It sits cross-wise on the back of a double lot, separate and sunshiney, quiet and private, a hidden gem.
Most city homes are narrow. Ours is wide. You enter in the middle, instead of one end, and this give the place an expansiveness that’s rare.
We’re two blocks from a park, 1 block from a flower shop, and around the corner from the best coffee-and-pastry shop in the city. Not to mention the best dog groomer anywhere and the friendliest convenience store personnel.
More about the place can be found here: http://suzannegignilliat.myksagent.com/07490180/
But this was supposed to be about you, the next owner of this place. You may be attracted to it because it’s so convenient to the Southport and Clybourn Corridor shopping areas, yet this section of the street is residential and peaceful. You may be thinking that it’s time to take advantage of that tax credit (that’s $8K that goes away if you don’t enter into a contract by April 30.)
You could be a professional couple like the people in Unit A, or a family with two small children like those in B, or maybe expecting your first child like those in C. Or, like us, with children practically grown, happy to use the extra space for exercise equipment and art studios.
How will you find us? You could already be working with a broker and seen the listing. You may read this and be curious. You could walk by and see the for sale sign and wonder what’s back there, along that mysterious path. (And be prompted to call for an appointment.)
You may have seen just the first thumbnail photo of the place, and not known what to make of it. Because of the way it’s sited, it’s hard to get a good view of the outside. You have to see inside to appreciate what’s here, what delicious filling is in the center.

Wow – love your home. I’ll be in the market soon but not quite yet. It would be perfect (although a little bit on the “spendy” side as my Portland friends would say). Found myself dreaming of having a room for each of my girls PLUS a studio for Reiki and massages and stuff. I hope you find the perfect buyer and soon!
Love your blog, too. I found you on Twitter through Josiane (kimianak).
(It just wiped my comment. Silly internet.)
I love your VPA and I love your home!!!! If I were moving yours would be a definite contender – it’s gorgeous!!! (I found you via Kimianak & retweeted about your VPA. I live in the UK but have US twitter friends).
My fingers are crossed for you, that the new owner shows up soon. =)

Rose and Jessica, thanks to you both for the great comments and good wishes. And the retweeting!
If anyone is still looking, we have dropped the price by a whopping $70k. It was a good price before; now it is an amazing deal for this neighborhood.
